4 Vegan Recipes for Weight Loss: Recipes that Boost Your Metabolism

We all know that what we eat affects our well-being and health. But did you know that a plant-based diet can positively impact your gut bacteria, boost your metabolism and therefore help you lose weight? In this article we will share with you one whole day of vegan recipes for weight loss.

Successful weight loss is influenced by the bacteria in our gut. If we have too many “bad” bacteria, we often feel sluggish and tired as a result. Therefore, eating the right food directly impacts the level of “good” bacteria in our guts. This, in turn, helps to boost your metabolism.

A well-functioning metabolism not only makes us feel more energetic, but plays an important role in weight loss and in weight management. The more effective our metabolism, the more we can eat without putting on the weight. With these recipes that boost your metabolism, you can literally eat yourself slim.

In order to balance your gut bacteria and create a well-functioning metabolism through nutrition, we need to focus on alkaline foods.

Vegan recipes for weight loss: alkaline foods

  • Almost all fruits and vegetables, including and especially lemon – who would have thought?
  • Legumes, such as beans and pulses
  • Whole grains, such as oats, sweet potatoes, quinoa, whole-grain bread and pasta

  • Spices and herbs

Funnily enough, alkaline foods are almost identical with a plant-based diet. We avoid processed foods, animal foods, refined sugar and carbohydrates, as well as coffee, carbonised drinks, and smoking. It is, therefore, no wonder that recipes that boost your metabolism are essentially the same as recipes that will help you lost weight. After all, everything goes hand in hand.

Let’s take a look at four vegan recipes for weight loss with alkaline-based foods that boost your metabolism.

1. Fresh Lemon Ginger Tea for Weight Loss

Homemade, fresh teas taste the best and have a variety of benefits for your health at the same time. Lemons are notoriously sour, but they actually turn our PH alkaline and make us less sour 😉

Ginger has a variety of health benefits: It has anti-inflammatory and stimulating effects, relieves headaches, and can counteract nausea. Due to its stimulating properties, ginger is also a great metabolism booster.

Ingredients for 4 cups of tea

– 2 lemons

– 1 tuber of organic ginger

– 1 L boiled water

– Optional: plant-based sweetener, such as Agave or maple syrup

Halve the lemons and squeeze the juice of both lemons into a teapot. Peel the ginger bulb and cut it lengthwise into thin slices. Depending on how spicy you like it, you can use up to one bulb for 4 cups of tea.

Now place the ginger in with the lemon juice and pour 1 liter of boiled water on the mixture. Let the tea fuse for at least 3-4 minutes. If you like it sweet, you can sweeten the tea with 1 teaspoon of sweetener. Agave or maple syrup are suitable plant-based options for this.

The best: The ginger can also be infused a 2nd time 😊

2. Vegan Breakfast Recipe: Porridge with Apple & Cinnamon

Fruits and whole grains help regulate our alkaline balance, making them ideal breakfast ingredients. The oatmeal in the porridge is also a good source of protein!

Using cinnamon as a spice in this dish not only tastes great in combination with the apple, but is also a great metabolism booster. Did you know that cinnamon also reduces our cravings for unhealthy sweets? Plenty of reasons to make this your go-to breakfast recipe!

Ingredients for 2 servings

– 1 large apple

– 1.5 cups of oatmeal

– sweetener of choice (e.g. agave syrup or maple syrup)

– 1 tablespoon cinnamon

– ½ tbsp. ginger spice

– ½ tbsp. cardamom

– 1 tbsp. coconut oil

– Optional: walnuts or chopped almonds

Put the oatmeal in a bowl and add some water to let it soak.

Meanwhile, lightly heat the coconut oil in a saucepan. Peel and chop the apple into bite-sized pieces. Then add the apple to the heated coconut oil and lightly sauté for 1-2 minutes.

Reduce the heat of the stove top and now add the soaked oatmeal and mix well. Then add the cinnamon, ginger spice and cardamom and mix everything together well. Feel free to spice it up to taste.

Finally, sweeten the porridge to taste. You can also mix in the walnuts or chopped almonds to give the porridge a tasty consistency.

Bon appetit!

3. Lunch: Guacamole on Wholemeal Bread

Hmmm! Who can resist a nice guacamole? Neither can I! Especially not when the guacamole is fresh and homemade. Best of all, avocados are actually also one of the fruits (yes, it’s a fruit) that regulate our alkaline balance. Add some lemon to your guacamole and you have yourself a great vegan recipe to boost your metabolism!

Whole grains support a healthy digestion because of their fibre content. And who knew? Whole grain products are also good sources of B vitamins, which are needed for a healthy metabolism. I say, keep the good bread coming!

– 1 large, ripe avocado

– 1 small red onion

– 1 half lemon

– 4 cherry tomatoes

– 1 package fresh coriander

– 2 tablespoons olive oil

– Salt & pepper

– Garlic seasoning

– Wholemeal bread or rolls of your choice

Cut the avocado in half and spoon the entire contents into a medium bowl. Then mash the avocado with a fork until it takes on the consistency of guacamole. You can make it more coarse or smooth to your liking.

Now add the juice of half a lemon and the olive oil to the guacamole. Season it with salt, pepper and garlic seasoning. Taste the guacamole and season to taste.

Tip: Avocados can usually use a good amount of salt.

Chop the onion and cherry tomatoes into very small pieces. Wash and chop the cilantro. Add the onion, tomatoes and cilantro to the guacamole and mix lightly.

And you have the world’s best guacamole! Spread generously on bread and enjoy.

P.S.: Did you know that the guacamole will keep fresh longer if you put the avocado stone on the guacamole and store it that way? Try it out!

4. Dinner Vegan Recipe for Weight Loss: Chili sin Carne

Chilis are a top-notch meal for various reasons. As we’ve learned, vegetables, legumes, and spices help us restore a good alkaline balance and support our “good” gut bacteria.

In addition, spicy meals stimulate the metabolism. But the best part: a bean packed Chili is a real protein boost, too!

Worried that making a Chili will take too long or involve too much effort? Let me reassure you, it won’t! Simply follow this vegan recipe to boost your metabolism and make a world-class Chili sin Carne.

Ingredients for 4 servings

– 2 small vegetable onions

– 3 cloves of garlic

– 1 can kidney beans

– 1 can of white beans

– 1 can of black beans

– 3 packages of coriander

– 2 fresh chilies (alternative: chili flakes, dried)

– 1 package of creme fraiche

– 750 ml strained tomatoes

– 1 ½ tbsp. cinnamon spice

– 3 tbsp. smoked paprika spice

– 1 tablespoon olive oil

– 1 tbsp. tomato paste

– 1 tsp. sugar

– Pepper & salt

Peel and chop vegetable onion and garlic cloves. Sauté in a pot with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Remove the seeds from the 2 fresh chilies and chop them as well. Now add the chilies, the tomato paste, 1 tsp sugar, the cinnamon spice and the smoked paprika, as well as pepper and salt and mix.

Meanwhile, rinse the 3 cans of beans in a colander and drain. Add the beans to the pot and mix well with the spices before also adding the strained tomatoes.

Let the Chili simmer on low heat for at least 15-30 minutes, stirring constantly. Taste in between and season with paprika, salt and pepper if necessary.

In the meantime, wash and chop the cilantro. Serve the Chili sin Carne with enough cilantro and a generous spoonful of creme fraiche at the end. Bon appetit!
